Long Herd by Norm Clasen
E-mail this product to a friend
Shooting Long Herd, also known
as Wild Bunch, was exciting but exhausting. Horses just don't like to
run down into an enclosed area, and to create this shot, Clasen asked
the cowhands to gather the herd to the left and then stampede them down
the hill in front of him. On the first two tries, they escaped up the
steep embankment in the background. Before the third run through, which
the photographer knew was his last attempt - the herd just wouldn't do
it again - he placed several riders up on the embankment. As the herd
stampeded, they wouldn't run into the cowhands on the hill so they "had"
to run where Clasen had set up his shot. Victory! At last. One of his
finest shots!
