John L. Labbe’ is a self-taught artist. While he has had “brushes” with formal art training, notably the Famous Artist Course, Citrus College and private lessons, his style is as diverse as his subject matter, which are each reflective of his influences. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, a full Cajun, with lifelong interest in Native Americans, horses, and dogs, his art reflects his heritage and his hobbies. John works primarily in pen and ink. When color is called for he prefers watercolor.
“Art is an emotional experience as much as a visual one. If the subject does not evoke a feeling in me, then any artistic rendering is unlikely to move you.”
From drawings depicting rural Louisiana Cajun life, to New Orleans courtyards and French Quarter poster art, to western and American Indian themed art, to horses and dogs, with some modern abstractions thrown in for good measure, John Labbe’ renders them all with feeling and unique style.
